Introduction to Management
A two day course

A two day course for newly promoted Supervisors, existing Supervisors or First Line Managers, staff being developed for a first Line Management position who have had no formal training.

Objective

Today's Supervisor or First Line Manager is expected to have a wide range of skills in order to do their job effectively. This course aims to give a sound understanding of this role and the techniques involved in achieving the maximum results from staff.

Timing (both days): 0930-1630 hrs (half hour lunch)

Content – Day 1
• The role of the Supervisor or First Line Manager within the organisation
• Agreeing objectives and goals
• Improving planning and time management
• The importance of delegation & how to delegate effectively
• The importance of assertion skills, questioning and listening.

Content – Day 2
• Understanding what motivates people & how to use this to build the team
• Handling staff performance issues
• Day to day disciplinary and grievance problems and how to handle them.

Method
The course will be highly participative, with practical exercises to aid the learning process, in addition to tutor input and in company project work.
